How to do it โ step by step
Unplug the unit before any cleaning. Remove the water bucket and wash it with a 10% bleach solution to kill mold and mildew; rinse thoroughly. Remove the air filter (usually a slide-out foam or mesh panel on the back) and wash it with warm soapy water, rinse, and let it dry completely before reinstalling. Access the rear grille and use a soft brush attachment on a vacuum to clean the evaporator coils โ dust-coated coils make the unit work significantly harder. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth. If the unit has a continuous drain hose, flush it and verify it drains freely. Plug back in and set the humidistat to 45โ50% relative humidity. A dehumidifier that runs constantly but doesn't lower humidity has likely lost its refrigerant charge and should be serviced or replaced.
