How to do it โ step by step
Turn the fan off and wait for blades to stop. Use a long-handled duster or a pillowcase slipped over each blade to wipe without scattering dust. For stubborn buildup, wipe with a barely damp cloth and a drop of dish soap. Dry immediately. While blades are accessible, check each blade bracket screw โ loose screws cause wobble and the clicking noise that gets worse over time. If the fan still wobbles after tightening screws, use a balancing kit (usually included with the fan or available for $5) to identify the heavy blade and add a counterweight. A dusty fan recirculates allergens and biofilm throughout the room. Fans with significant blade buildup also lose efficiency, running harder for the same airflow.
