How to do it โ step by step
Once a year (ideally in spring when salt is low), clean the brine tank to remove sludge and sediment. Disconnect the softener and bypass the water supply. Scoop out remaining salt and water from the tank. Use a wet/dry vacuum to remove remaining water and debris. Mix a tablespoon of dish soap in a gallon of water and scrub the inside walls with a long-handled brush. Rinse thoroughly, then wipe down with a diluted bleach solution (1/4 cup bleach per gallon of water) to sanitize and prevent bacterial growth. Rinse again with clean water. Reconnect, refill with fresh salt pellets, and run a manual regeneration cycle. A clean brine tank improves regeneration efficiency and prevents mushy salt from clogging the injector.
