Hot Tub / Spa Water Change

Turn off the spa at the breaker. Attach a submersible pump or garden hose to the drain fitting and empty the tub. Clean the shell with a non-abrasive spa cleaner and rinse thoroughly. Remove and rinse each filter cartridge with a filter cleaner — soak overnight every 3 months. Refill with fresh water and add a startup chemical kit: adjust pH (7.4–7.6), alkalinity (80–120 ppm), and sanitizer (3–5 ppm chlorine or 30–50 ppm bromine). Run jets for 15 minutes to purge the plumbing lines before adding sanitizer. Stale water harbors bacteria (including Legionella) that no amount of chemicals can fully remediate — fresh water every 3–4 months is non-negotiable.
