Open and Service Pool for Spring

Remove and store the winter cover (cleaning it first extends its life). Reconnect plumbing, fill pool to proper level, and reinstall accessories. Prime and start the pump; check filter pressure. Shock the pool with a double dose of chlorine and run the pump 24 hours. Test and balance pH (7.4–7.6), alkalinity (80–120 ppm), and stabilizer (30–50 ppm). Clean or backwash the filter. Green water indicates algae and needs an algaecide treatment. Proper spring opening prevents equipment damage and costly water remediation.
