Inspect trees for branches that hang over or near your roof, gutters, or power lines. Hire a certified arborist for large trees or branches near power lines. For smaller branches you can reach safely, use proper pruning tools and cut at the branch collar (not flush with the trunk). Storm damage from fallen branches averages $5,000–$10,000 per incident and is often not fully covered by insurance.
